RoxasXion: First Mission

Kingdom Hearts shine its moon like rays onto The World That Never Was. Shadow and Neo Shadows stalked the dark alleys of the city. Every building was black as night. The only building that was white in colour was the Castle with Kingdom Hearts above it. Inside the white castle the Nobodies were patrolling. Their superiors were disappearing now and then to run their errands. Only a few Nobodies accompanied them. A group of Samurais bowed as they saw their leader approaching. Like the other members of Organization 13, he wore a black robe. He has spiky blonde hair and blue eyes. He was very young; roughly about the age of 15 years old.

Roxas yawned, ignoring his minions. “What a tough day!”

Another figure walked beside him, nodding. He was taller than Roxas and he has fiery red hair. “Looks like you don’t need me anymore.”

Roxas shrugged. “It always fun having at my side, Axel.”

Axel grinned. “Yeah, those heartless didn’t know what hit them! I hope we get more missions kicking Heatless asses!”

Just then, a dark portal appeared in front of them. A figure stepped out of the portal. The figure was about their age and his violet hair was covering his left eye.

“There is a meeting with the superior.” the newcomer announced to Roxas and Axel. “Go there at once.”

Axel and Roxas exchanged looks. “You know Zexion”, Axel commented. “Just because you’re one of the first six members of the Organization doesn’t mean you can boss us around.”

Zexion scowled, “Just go there!”

Without further ado, the three of them disappeared into darkness and reappeared in the white Marble room. Inside the room there were thirteen marble chairs placed in a circle surrounding the Organization Slogan. Roxas, Axel and Zexion were the first to arrive. A few minutes later, dark portals appeared above the remaining ten chairs. All the members of the Organization 13 have assembled. On the tallest chair was their Superior, Xemnas.

“Greetings”, Xemnas announced to his followers. “The Organization’s progress is moving very well! Not for long, Kingdom Heart will be reborn!”

There was a rumbling of cheers and applause. A member with long, blonde hair and the only female in the Organization, Larxene, asked, “So why did you called us for a meeting?”

“A new headquarter is being built”, Xemnas answered addressing not only to Larxene but to the others as well. “It will be named Castle Oblivion and the Organization needs at least six members to maintain the maintenance and the defence!” He looked at every member in the room. “So I want Zexion, Vexen, Lexeous, Marluxia, Larxene and Axel to report to Castle Oblivion at once! Marluxia will be the Castle Administrator!”

As the other assigned members exchanged looks, Roxas felt crestfallen. Now he has to go on missions alone. True that Axel can be a pain in the ass sometimes but at least he had someone to enjoy the Heartless Extermination with.

“Before we’re dismissed”, Xemnas continued ignoring the glares aiming at Marluxia. “Allow me to introduce our fourteenth member!”

A dark portal appeared in the middle of the room and a figure stepped out of the darkness. The figure’s face was covered with the hood that came with the Organization’s black robes but Roxas could tell that the figure was about his age.

“Our newest member happened to be a female”, Xemnas commented adding more surprises into the other members. “Xion, be kind enough to show your faces to your fellow nobodies!”

Xion, as the figure was called, raised her hood. She has short dark blue hair and her eyes were as the same colour as her hair. Xion glanced nervously at the members. She was greeted with surprised silence.

Xigbar, the one with the ponytail and white streaking the middle of his hair, broke the silence, “Look like we have to rename ourselves as Organization 14!”

Some of the members chuckled at Xigbar’s joke. Xemnas waited until the laughter was over before continuing, “Since Xion is new to the Organization; she will accompany Roxas during his missions since Axel will be attending Castle Oblivion.”

Roxas’ reaction was embarrassment. He never felt comfortable around girls, especially Larxene when she sometimes teased or flirted with him. He looked at Axel but was surprise when Axel gave him a grin and a thumb up.

“Right”, Xemnas said. “You’re all dismissed! Those who are assigned to Castle Oblivion report there immediately! Roxas and Xion, report to Sa’ix for your assignment.”

With that, all the members left the marble room to proceed to their duties.

After Roxas received his next assignment from Sa’ix, he ran into Axel before his departure.


“Well”, Axel grinned at him. “Looks like you are having a girl as a partner for a change.”

Roxas said nothing.

Axel placed his hand on Roxas’ right shoulder. “Look Roxas, I think I have to guard Castle Oblivion for the rest of my life so tried to do things without me.” He straighten and continued, “Besides, it’s now your turn to help the younger generation.”

Roxas can’t help smiling. “Well I guess so.”

“Well see you later buddy.” Axel said before disappearing into the darkness. Roxas gave a sigh and went to look for Xion. He found her on the staircase of Twilight View no doubt exploring the castle. When she saw Roxas, she blushed and said, “Hello, my name is Xion. Are you Roxas?”

Unable to speak, Roxas nodded. Then he found his tongue and said, “So Xion, are you ready for your first mission?” He tried sounding encouraging.

Xion, also shy, nodded. Roxas, now acting like Axel when he was first assigned to him, said, “Right, let head to Twilight Town.” He turned his back on her to hide his face. “Our assignment is to cleanse the town from Heartless.”

Both of them disappeared into the darkness.

The sunset was enchanting in the horizon of Twilight Town. The residents were doing what they do in their daily life. Moogles were either selling or synthesising for customers and most of the close were closing as the day became late. Very soon, many residents were retreating to their homes as darkness approached. As the sun was sinking deeper, the streets were empty. In one of the deserted alleys in the Market Place, a dark portal appeared. Roxas and Xion stepped out of the portal.

“Well here we’re”, Roxas informed Xion. “Twilight Town.”

Xion first action was to shield her eyes from the sun’s glares. After a while, she un-shield her eyes and started marvelling the beauty of the sunset. Roxas was about to tell her to keep her mind on the mission then he stopped himself. He acted like this when he first came to Twilight Town with Axel. Roxas couldn’t blame her for gaping at something so beautiful.

Then another thought came into his mind. Does Xion know how to fight? What are her abilities? Xemnas didn’t say anything about her skills. He knows that Larxene use lightning as her weapon but what about Xion? What element does she use? Darkness? Nature? Mind-Powers?

He was still pondering when he spotted a dark creature. It stared at him with yellow eyes. In an instance, there were a dozen of them approaching him and Xion.

“Xion!” shouted Roxas. Xion snapped out of her day dream and ran to Roxas’ side.

“Get behind me!” Roxas told Xion. He wasn’t supposed to protect her but conscience told him to. Roxas summoned his two key-blades; Oblivion and Oath-Keeper. He was about to charge at the heartless when he was surprised that Xion walked calmly beside him. He almost stumbled in shock; Xion was holding a Key-Blade!

Xion looked at Roxas’ Key-blades and smiled for the first time. “Now understand why Xemnas put us together.” she said.

Roxas swallowed his surprise and without waiting for a reply from Xion, slashed a heartless jumping at him with Oath-Keeper. Xion swung her Kingdom Key at an approaching Heartless. Within five minutes, all the Heartless were defeated. Roxas check that there were no more Heartless in the area before coming back to Xion who was sitting on the ground wearily. Roxas pulled her onto her feat.

“You’re pretty good with the Key-Blade.” Roxas praised her.

Xion blushed at the compliment. “Thank you.”

Roxas, now have respect for Xion, smiled and said, “Come on. We still need to check the other areas for heartless.”

With Key-Blades in hand, together they search for more Heartless to exterminate.

“Well that the last one.” commented Roxas. He and Xion had spent one hour getting rid of Heartless in the Town. Surprisingly, the sun was still in the horizon, when Xion took out the last Heartless. Right now, Xion was leaning herself on the wall, breathing heavily. After a few seconds, she was on her feat.

Roxas grinned. “Well done. Not bad for your first mission.”

Xion smiled, gently and sweetly. “You did most of the work, I only help a bit.”

“Nonsense!” assured Roxas. “We deserve a treat after all that hard work! Come on.” He took Xion’s hand gently and led her to the Plaza’s Clock Tower.

Roxas and Xion were sitting on the ledge of the Clock Tower looking at Sunset. Roxas took out two Sea-Salt Ice-Creams and gave one to Xion. Xion said thanks and lick the Ice-Cream.

“It salty”, Xion exclaimed. “But sweet!”

“I said the same thing when I first tasted it!” Roxas laughed.

They both laughed together until they were threatened to fall off the ledge. Continuing to eat their Ice-Creams, Roxas asked, “So do you remember your former self?”

Xion looked troubled that Roxas regretted his question. Then she said, “Not much. I’ve faded memories of a girl and a boy being together. I don’t know who are they but I believe the girl is my former-self.” She sighed. “I doubt I will return to my former body.”

Roxas tried to console her. “I too can’t remember before I became a Nobody, but when Kingdom Heart is reborn, we might return to our original form.”

“You think so?” she asked hopefully.

Roxas nodded confidently. “That’s why the Organization was made for or my name isn’t Roxas!”

Xion giggled and the both of them finished their ice-creams. After one last look at the sunset, they returned to the castle.

“Good”, Sa’ix said as Roxas and Xion made their report. “Both of you have done well. You’ll receive your next assignment soon. You may go.”

As Roxas and Xion walked back to their quarters, Xion asked nervously, “Urm… Roxas?”

Roxas turned back to her; noting that she had used his name. “What is it?” he asked.

Xion shuffled her feet. “Do you mind having sword practice with me?”

Roxas beamed at her. He has this feeling that he wanted to spend more time with her. “Of course! We can begin tomorrow if you want.” he said.

Xion smiled at him. “Thank you so much!”

Bidding each other ‘Good-Night’, they return to their quarters eager to continue their friendships tomorrow.
